We’re hearing more and more about how to get a healthy gut…but what about why you need to focus on getting a healthy gut?
What does ‘having a healthy gut’ even mean for you and your family?
Here are just a few of the many benefits that you and your family may enjoy if you focus on improving your gut health.
1. Less illness in your household
Did you know that around 70-80% of your immune system lives in your gut! There is a complicated interplay between your gut microbes and the immune cells, and having a diverse and thriving gut microbiome can help you stave off those winter sniffles!
2. You will absorb more goodness from your food
Having a healthy gut means that your body will absorb and utilise more of the vitamins and minerals in your food. This means you will get more of the benefits from eating all those healthy fruits, veg, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and legumes.
3. Your brain will function better!
Your brain and gut are connected chemically and physically. Ensuring that you nurture your gut can help support your mental wellbeing, and reduce the chance of cognitive impairment, or things like brain fog. You could argue that your gut health is important to the happiness of your entire family!
4. You will boost your fertility
Having a healthy gut has been shown to play a role in your chances of conceiving… and that’s not all! A healthy mama gut has also been shown to pass on to her bub at birth, creating the foundations for their developing microbiome, and their lifelong health! Pretty important stuff!
As you can see, nurturing your family’s gut health is a top priority for so many different reasons.
