It’s all a bit weird really.

We spend a hell-of-a-lot of time learning how to avoid pregnancy, but almost no time learning how to successfully fall pregnant, how to nurture ourselves through our pregnancy, or about the power we have to optimise the health of our babies throughout their lives.

We learn about all the things we should quit if we want to get pregnant…smoking, drinking, soft cheese etc…but no-one really talks about the fact that simply avoiding these things is not enough…that what we put in and around our bodies in the lead up to pregnancy is actually key to supporting a healthy gut microbiome, and therefore our fertility, pregnancy, and the developing immune system of our future baby.

Despite the mounting evidence to support the importance of a healthy microbiome for fertility, pregnancy and healthy babies, this essential ‘snippet’ of information is so often completely overlooked in our rushed GP and hospital visits. For most women, pregnancy involves a 15 minute GP session to confirm pregnancy and be handed a leaflet of ‘Foods to Avoid’, a quick hospital visit, scans at 12 and 20 weeks, and a few appointments with midwives to discuss your birth plan…

We here at MothersBabies believe there needs to be more support and education for people wanting to have a baby one day…and the earlier you can access the information, the better! In fact, there are changes you can make years before you even start trying to have a baby to promote a healthy gut microbiome, that will not only help you feel better, but also increase your likelihood of falling pregnant, having a healthy pregnancy, and giving birth to a healthy bub. MothersBabies is here to help you recognise your power in the pre-pregnancy window, helping guide you towards making science-informed decisions, and away from the misguided quackery that is so prevalent in our online health space.

For some, finding out that what they eat, whether they exercise, or if they stress too much, could impact their fertility and the health trajectory of your baby throughout its life feels really heavy. It can be a sensitive time, and women are all too quick to blame themselves if things don’t go to plan, but it’s not about blame. It’s about knowledge.

Knowledge is power, and we, at MothersBabies, feel a great responsibility to share the science with you so that you too can gain access to the science demonstrating the power we have over our own health, fertility, and our baby’s health.

In our Pre-Pregnancy Bundle, part of our online course ‘Healthy Gut, Healthier Baby’, you will gain access to some of the leading experts in the field of microbiome research, medicine, fertility, nutrition and obstetrics. You can rest assured that every piece of information you learn from these videos and articles is based on the latest science. We are passionate about sharing this knowledge with you, so that you can feel empowered and informed in the time leading up to pregnancy, during pregnancy, and in the first year of your child’s life.
