Breastfeeding Diet: does it really matter?

When a baby is born, a shift in focus moves from the pregnant woman to her baby. New mums often find themselves prioritising the health and happiness of their newborn baby above their own.

While this is completely understandable with the pressures and exhaustion of new parenthood, there is research to support the importance of breastfeeding mums consuming a well-balanced, nutrient-dense diet – both for themselves, and for the health of their baby.

In this newsletter, you can:

  • Read an article by nutritionist Clare Carrick, looking at the impact that a breastfeeding mum’s diet may have on her breastmilk
  • Read a summary written by Dr Fathalla Ali of the scientific evidence examining maternal diet and breastmilk composition.
  • Watch Paediatric Immunobiologist Dr Steven Leach discuss the importance of breastfeeding and diet on the first 1000 days of life.
