For many of us, it’s the appearance of those two lines on the pregnancy test that signifies the start of some changes you’ll need to make…cutting alcohol and soft cheeses, reducing caffeine, and giving up those deli meat sandwiches for a while…

But the science is in support of preparing for a healthy pregnancy LONG before a positive pregnancy test! The preconception period has been recognised as an under appreciated time, with the potential for widespread implications for the health of the mum, pregnancy and future baby.

Recognising this key window of time, and prepping your body in the months leading up to when you first start trying to conceive can have a hugely beneficial impact on your fertility, the course of your pregnancy, and the health outcomes of bub.

In this newsletter, you can read:
  • An article written by Clare Carrick all about the importance of preconception prepping.
  • summary written by Dr Fathalla Ali about the nutritional recommendations for the perinatal (including preconception) period and how this influences baby’s gut microbiota development.
  • review of some of the current evidence for preconception care and why it needs more focus.
